2018 Week 13 Challenges

After a long time, I felt calm and happy. The highlight of this week was reading a path breaking book while I was doing research to write my book. Apart from that, singing came to rescue me from stress as always.

Review of Week 12

1.Book of the week: Think and grow rich
This book took me a level deeper on my understanding of affirmations. It is not about just doing the affirmation as mentioned in ‘The Secret’ but you need to breathe in an emotion, faith and plan to the affirmation. It was quite motivating. Now I understand why this book is called one of the best motivational books.
2.Course of the week: Introduction to Psychology
I just did a few important topics and left the remaining.
3.Habit of the Week: Stay positive
In midst of all commotion, it was tough. But I still gave my best to look at the positive side of my life. Also, I learnt at a deeper level on what it takes to stay positive.
4.Write book
Even though I had not written much, I read enough to gather points to write. I am happy with the progress I made.

Challenges for Week 13

1.Book of the week: The power of intention
It is one among the list of books for March. Hoping to learn something new in this book too.
2.Course of the week: Positive Psychology – Resilience Skills
As a part of the positive thinking learning, I want to try out this course.
3.Habit of the Week: Fear tracker
A lot of the negativity stems from fears. “What if!” That one statement is sufficient to pull you back in life. I will make a note of all the ‘what ifs’ which I come across in the day.
4.Write book
I need to increase the number of words per day to 1000 now to make progress. Hoping to discover a lot more interesting things in this journey.
That is all for the next week.

Happy Week 13!

2018 Week 12 Challenges

I fell sick again. Looked like I was not doing the affirmations the right way. Or it takes a lot of time for affirmations to work. I was successful in making a significant progress in studying my psychology exams and wrote my assignments.

Review of Week 11

1.Book of the week: The Power of your Subconscious mind
It talks about the science of prayer. In contrast to the book Secret, this book mentions that if you think negatively, that will show up immediately. The conscious mind thinks logically and finalises on a belief. While the subconscious mind blindly implements it. So you need to be really careful on what you believe. Even though I have been telling myself positive things, I am yet to see the results.
2.Course of the week: Introduction to Psychology
I did not make time to do this course.
3.Habit of the Week: Thank you note
On the first day, when I sent a thank you note, the opposite person was relatively new to me. He did not respond at all. On the second day, I sent it to a close friend and she felt extremely loved. She missed me terribly and we met the next day. On the third day, I sent it to an old friend talking about how I miss college memories with her. She replied back immediately that we should move to the same city to relive the old memories. The fourth day, I sent it to a more recent friend who felt that I was being formal with her. Even though I sent it with the same sentiment to all of them, it had been received in totally different ways. From the fifth day, I felt a bit reserved and was not comfortable to open up with anyone else.
4.Write book
I got the structure in place for my new book. I wrote a little more content and edited the old book. Still a long way to go.

Challenges for Week 12

1.Book of the week: Think and grow rich
I started this book a lot of times but never read beyond the point where the gold digger leaves it just a few inches away. This time, I want to finish it.
2.Course of the week: Introduction to Psychology
This has been pending for a while. So I need to somehow make time for this.
3.Habit of the Week: Stay positive
The past 12 weeks had been a roller coaster ride. I want to end the ups and downs. I need to stabilize so that I can concentrate better on the present. So even if the world goes upside down, I will give my best to stay positive.
4.Write book
Previously, when I did 30-day blogging challenge, even though searching for topics was tough, it was easy to accomplish. For my book too, I will take it as a different topic to write on each day. This way writing won’t feel like a tough process to do.
That is all for the next week.

The five love languages- Book review

Author : Gary Chapman
Print Copy | Kindle
A week back, one of my friends asked me
“ Should I go back to the first guy I spoke to? I don’t feel that way with anyone else?”
I said, “ No. You should just work it out with whoever you are speaking to now.”
She felt offended. “ Why do you look at arranged marriages lower to love marriages?”
I told her that in love marriages you are blinded with love initially, in arranged marriages you choose to love after marriage. A guy you meet in arranged marriage setup can make you feel the same if he chooses to make you feel that. You might never again feel after marriage the ‘in-love’ experience you are talking about.
She never replied to me. We have not spoken in the past ten days again.
Why does it take so much effort for a person to accept that love is a conscious choice you make?
This book answered that question of mine.
Even though this book has been written extensively for couples, it is not just for them. For any happy relation, you should be able to provide what they need and not what you can give.
If your baby is hungry and you give a toy, will it make the baby stop crying?
That is the concept which the author explained in the book.
It is a really short book. I finished it in one night. Even though it talks about the concept which we already know, he put a structure to it, which makes the concept clearer. He calls the way you can feel someone loved is like a language. If you don’t speak that language, you need to learn it. Knowing the language alone is not sufficient, you have to speak in the dialect too.
After each chapter, he gives you practical exercises which will help you take action on learning the language. At the end of the book, he has given a test to identify primary love language if you are not clear after reading the book.
I now know how to make my parents, sibling and friends feel loved. All I have to do is what they need and not what I can do the best to make them loved. Previously, I used to think that one form of expressing love was superior than others. But now I understand that one form is not superior than the other. It is about which one is important for the person you want to make feel loved.
Once when all my friends met, the host’s sister said “ Every weekend you complain that you have no one to go out with. Now when your friends are here, you just want to stay at home.”
My host friend said, “ All I want to do is spend time with them by playing indoor games and make wonderful memories.”
Her love language is quality time. What is yours?
Read the book and identify yours and that of important people in your life.
Happy loving!

Book Review – As a Man Thinketh

Author: James Allen
Print Copy | Kindle
It is one of the shortest books I ever read. It is second in the series of books I read on affirmations. When I read online reviews of Secret, everyone bashed the book saying it is all crap and too good to believe.
If the same message of secret has to be read in a compact, concise and classic style of writing, this is the book.
Did I learn something new from the book?
But I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style of the author. It looked like every sentence written in the book was harsh truth. It is one of the well written books I ever read. The words are so concise and to the point. The writing style is so difficult to emulate. One needs to really learned and a great writer to write it in a precise to the point way. The words he used go directly touch your conscience and question your thoughts.
Next time when you have evil or negative thoughts, his words come into your mind. They remind you that you are the creator of your destiny. Do you really want your life to unfold in this path?
If there is one word to summarize the book, it is self-control.

MAN’S mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth.

Thought and character are one, and as character can only manifest and discover itself through environment and circumstance, the outer conditions of a person’s life will always be found to be harmoniously related to his inner state

That circumstances grow out of thought every man knows who has for any length of time practised self-control and self-purification, for he will have noticed that the alteration in his circumstances has been in exact ratio with his altered mental condition.

The soul attracts that which it secretly harbours; that which it loves, and also that which it fears; it reaches the height of its cherished aspirations; it falls to the level of its unchastened desires,–and circumstances are the means by which the soul receives its own.

Circumstance does not make the man; it reveals him to himself

Men do not attract that which they want, but that which they are.

What, then, is the meaning of “fighting against circumstances?” It means that a man is continually revolting against an effect without, while all the time he is nourishing and preserving its cause in his heart. That cause may take the form of a conscious vice or an unconscious weakness; but whatever it is, it stubbornly retards the efforts of its possessor, and thus calls aloud for remedy.

Men are anxious to improve their circumstances, but are unwilling to improve themselves; they therefore remain bound

In the light of a deeper knowledge and wider experience such judgment is found to be erroneous. The dishonest man may have some admirable virtues, which the other does, not possess; and the honest man obnoxious vices which are absent in the other.

Good thoughts and actions can never produce bad results; bad thoughts and actions can never produce good results.

The circumstances, which a man encounters with suffering, are the result of his own mental in harmony.

Blessedness, not material possessions, is the measure of right thought; wretchedness, not lack of material possessions, is the measure of wrong thought. A man may be cursed and rich; he may be blessed and poor. Blessedness and riches are only joined together when the riches are rightly and wisely used; and the poor man only descends into wretchedness when he regards his lot as a burden unjustly imposed.

A man is not rightly conditioned until he is a happy, healthy, and prosperous being; and happiness, health, and prosperity are the result of a harmonious adjustment of the inner with the outer, of the man with his surroundings.

Men imagine that thought can be kept secret, but it cannot; it rapidly crystallizes into habit, and habit solidifies into circumstance

Impure thoughts of every kind crystallize into enervating and confusing habits, which solidify into distracting and adverse circumstances: thoughts of fear, doubt, and indecision crystallize into weak, unmanly, and irresolute habits, which solidify into circumstances of failure, indigence, and slavish dependence: lazy thoughts crystallize into habits of uncleanliness and dishonesty

The people who live in fear of disease are the people who get it.

Happy thinking in the right way!

2018 Week 11 Challenge

Week 10 was at extremes. First half of week 10 was beyond what I could handle. The second half was fun. Through affirmations and positive thinking, I could meet a friend who I wished I met. I could make time to hangout with another friend and watch a movie too.

Review of Week 10

1.Book of the week: Ask and it is given
This book conveys more or less the same concept of The Secret. I just needed one more dose to stay positive.
2.Course of the week: Introduction to Psychology
I just did a bit of this course.
3.Habit of the Week: No complaining
I failed in this. I need to try it once again.
4.Talk to one new person a day
Ask and it is given is true. I wished to speak to a stranger daily. After I finished my quota for the day, a stranger wanted to talk with me.
I could not make time for this. Instead, I used that time for singing which helped me to destress.

Challenges for Week 10

1.Book of the week: The Power of your Sub-conscious mind
I read this book in my college days. I want to read it again as a part of learning affirmations better.
2.Course of the week: Introduction to Psychology
I need to finish off this course this week.
3.Habit of the Week: Thank you note
Last week, I sent a thank you note to a friend who was celebrating her birthday. I am sure she beamed with happiness when I wrote all the wonderful memories we shared. This week I want to write a thank you note to a different friend each day. It helps me feel grateful to have such wonderful friends and I will also be making their day.
4.Write book
It had been almost 6 months that I had been planning to write regularly for my book. This week, I will write 500 words a day for it.
Apart from the above, I will continue talking to strangers, no complain, dance, psychology assignments and affirmations.
That is all for the next week.

Happy Week 11!

Book Review- The Secret

Author: Rhonda Byrne
Print Copy | Kindle
The past two months had been crazy for me. I had been trying out various ways to reduce the stress. Then I decided that the best way is to start dealing with my thoughts. I am aware of the power of sending messages to sub-conscious mind. I use that power to wake up in the morning. I want to make use of the same power to bring positivity into my life and get rid of stress forever.
The affirmations I was doing were not helping me in any way. My angel friend asked me to read ‘The Secret’ to learn about the right way to do affirmations.
I started off the book with high hopes that it will change my life drastically. But all the author asks is to think positive. I have previously attracted a lot of things which I deeply wished for. I can only comment on the authenticity of the book after I attract them again now. To stay positive, I kept a reminder in my phone for Morning, afternoon, evening and night. I close my eyes, smile broadly and repeat these affirmations. Whenever I feel negative, I force a smile on my face and try to look at the positive side of the situation. I had been writing my gratitude journal for more number of times than I used to previously.

  • The dreams you have for your life exist in a parallel world. By emitting a signal of the frequency of your dream, you bring that into reality
  • When you have good thoughts you feel positive emotions like joy, excitement. The more you feel this way, the more positivity you attract into life
  • Process
    • Step 1: The ask
      • From the catalogue of Universe wish for what you want
    • Step 2: The believe
      • Have faith that what you asked for is already yours
    • Step 3: The receive
      • Feel what it is like. To receive your order, all you have to do is feel good

The doubts of mine which the book answered

Will I ruin my life if I think negatively?
The power of a good thought is 100 times the power of a negative thought
What if I wish for what is not right for me?
There is a time delay between what you wish for and what you get
How do I know if I am thinking good thoughts?
Emotions are a result of our thoughts. In case you are not sure what you are thinking, ask yourself how you are feeling. That answers the question about the depth of your thoughts.
What do I do when I am spiralling down the negativity pillar?
Trigger the warning button and command it to change frequency
How to start with the positive thoughts?
Close your eyes. Focus on the feelings inside and smile.
How long will it take?
It takes the time for you to align your thoughts and be sure to reach the frequency of your dream
Will it take longer time to attract bigger things?
When you are considering something as big, you are not believing that you can get it. In that case, you can start small and slowly increase it.
Is there enough for all I ask for?
You can’t attract all you want if you have scarcity mentality. There is enough for everyone in the Universe.
How to deal with doubts?
Send that thought away. Tell yourself that you know that you are receiving the order
What to do about the events which did not go the way you want?
Replay them in the way you wish they could have happened

Best Practices

  • Let the first and last thought of the day be good ones
  • Practise meditation to gain control over your thoughts
  • Make a list of secret shifters which can change your mood immediately
  • Create your day in advance. Imagine what you want your day to look like
  • Practise gratitude. If you are not happy with what you already have, you will not get into the frequency of receiving bigger things in life
  • Visual motor rehearsal -By visualizing what you want, you are practising it in real
  • Cultivate abundant mentality
  • Make affirmations a daily practise

Mistakes to avoid

  • Don’t contradict your own thoughts
  • Don’t wish bad for others. Those thoughts will attract negativity into your life

“Whatever you sow, you reap! Your thoughts are seeds, and the harvest you reap will depend on the seeds you plant.”
“You create your own universe as you go along.”

Summary in a sentence

Be happy. Think positive. You manifest all you wish.

Do I believe in the secret?

I believe that I am more creative and productive when I am happy. The happier I am, the better progress I make. The more progress I make, the closer I am to the reality of my dreams.
Happy attracting your dreams!

2018 Week 10 Challenge

Week 9 was fun. Thought tracker is one of the best experiments I did. I was on a book marathon. The most awesome part was I felt I found a new set of friends to have ultimate load of joy.

Review of Week 9

1.Book of the week: The hidden tools of comedy

Sadly, I was not able to focus on the book even this week. But I read one book a day in the last few days – The secret, 5 love languages, As the man thinketh. Each book was packed with so much wisdom that I feel that I grew wiser in just 4 days.

2.Course of the week: Think again

I made a bit of progress but I was too consumed in my book reading spree that I did not finish it. At the same time, since the audio volume of Development psychology course was decent, I did that course during my commute time.

3.Habit of the Week: Decision Tracker

Instead of decision tracker, it became a thought tracker. I jotted down my thoughts as and when they came and at the end of the day, I wrote what my reaction should be and what are the action points I have for each thought. It was an amazing experience. It felt like I was living a new day every day.

4.No whatsapp

This again was a wonderful exercise. I realised that without whatsapp my life was much better. I was not endlessly checking for notifications or some random forward messages in random groups. Instead I used this time to read books and noting down my thoughts. It was amazing. But I had to get back to it to refer to important information. I will go away from it once again to enjoy my true freedom.

Challenges for Week 10

1.Book of the week:

I am not confining myself to one book. If I can find time, I will crunch in as many books as possible from my reading list for the month.

2.Course of the week: Introduction to Psychology

I did a part of this course before but I never finished it then. Now is the time to start it from first again  and finish it off.

3.Habit of the Week: No complaining

I reduced complaining to others significantly. But the chatter in my head still continues. This week is dedicated to eliminate that repeated stories which keep running in my head throughout the day. It gives me time and space to work on more interesting projects.

4.Talk to one new person a day

Last year, I spoke to 100 strangers. A few of them are my close friends today. It feels like I have forgotten what it is like to approach a stranger and talk to them. This week, I want to relive the experience again.
Dancing is a way to become a step closer to authentic self. Also it will help me to lose weight.

Apart from the above, I will continue with my psychology assignments and affirmations.

That is all for the next week.

How was your week 9? What are your plans for week 10? Let us know in the comments section.

Happy Week 10!

2018 February Review & March Goals

At the end of February, I already feel that a lot of time has passed. While some of the things went wonderfully well over the last two months, there are a few things which need deliberate efforts to make them work. I would like to dedicate March to keep rolling the things which went well and find new ways to get the work done.

February Review:

1.Reading books:
I haven’t perfected the art of selecting the book yet. I spent a week in preparing for my psychology exams. The other weeks I read Why Zebras don’t get ulcers, The hidden tools of comedy, the secret, the five love languages.
I finished Influence people and on the verge of finishing Think and reason 1. Both of them are great courses.
I did not have a great exercise routine this month either. Even though I had a few great days where I totally enjoyed my morning run, there were days when I did not get up from bed at all. I want to be healthier so that I don’t take sick day off.
4.Behavioral changes:
As a part of diverse types of trackers, I did free writing, sleep tracker and sick day tracker. Free writing helped me a lot to let go off my stress. It was calming and assuring. Sleep tracker gave me insights into what keeps me awake at night. I could not sleep well on 8 of 28 days this month. It is so unlike of me but I will work on reducing the stress levels to go back to my sound sleep days.
I reached a peak of socializing that I felt the need for a break. I attracted wonderful friends and memories in this process but I am a person who needs a break in between to get into it again.
I did not build any piece of art completely. But I did them in bits and pieces. Art requires some effort from my end. Instead, I chose to sing for a week which was an absolute bliss. It made me forget stress and brought me alive.
The downside of this was I was not able to do yoga after coming back from running in the initial few days.

Plans for March:

1.Reading books:
Even though I realised this very late in life, we are the product of our thoughts. This month is dedicated to read books on how to think in a way to attract what I want in life. After the first level research, I found a few books –
As the man thinketh
Thoughts are things
Think and grow rich
The power of your sub conscious mind
Be rich – The science of getting what you want
The Master Key system
Ask and it is given
The science of getting rich
The power of intention
Wealth beyond Reason.
All the above are rated above 4 on good reads. It is a start. Even if I don’t master the art of affirmations, I will at least half way be there. I might become a more optimistic person than I am today.
Body weights are wonderful way to lose weight. Apart from planks and push-ups, I will include squats. The last time I tried squats, I hurt my knees. This time I will do them more carefully.
In the month of Feb, I took a huge gap from writing. I need to start writing about the various experiments I did in the past two months and what I can learn from them. I have a long list of books and courses for which I need to write reviews too.
As I am preparing for psychology exams, I want to do courses related to that so that my basics are taken care of. These are the courses which I found so far –

  • Introduction to Psychology
  • Descriptive Research Methods in Psychology
  • Experimental Research Methods in Psychology
  • Introduction to Psychology as a Science 2

  • Introduction to Social Psychology
  • Introduction to Developmental Psychology
  • Introduction to Social Research Methods

I need to submit my assignments this month. I need to spend one and half hour daily on them.
Time division for this month:

This leaves me hardly any time left for new activities. But sometimes it is okay to focus on what is the hour of the need than introduce novelty in life.
How was your February? What are your plans for March?
Happy March!
