I was just curious on what goes into the preparation of those speakers who give amazing talks.You will be surprised if I tell you that you should read it immediately. Even though the book is meant for public speaking, if you follow the techniques mentioned in the book for daily conversations, your life will change dramatically.<\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One night when I was reading this book, I had an eureka moment. I just realized that there are very few rules which we need to learn in life. Whatever might be your profession, whatever your life goals are, you need to apply the same rules based on the scenario.<\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, this book talks about public speaking. But what is the purpose of a public speech? It is to plant the seed of your idea in the mind of audience. What do I do when I write? I want to motivate you to take action on your life goals. Is goal of public speaking any different from writing? Leave about writing. What do you do when you are conversing? You are trying to make the other person agree with your views.<\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ultimately, we all want to be heard and liked while we make a difference in the life of the other person.<\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first half of the book talks only about this. I felt mesmerized and felt it to be unputdownable.<\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But after a while, it got boring when he talked about the font to be used and other minute things.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After bearing through that section, it again got interesting and became unputdownable.<\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Key Points<\/span><\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can only use the tools that your audience has access to<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Common traps<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don&#8217;t give a sales pitch &#8211; be a giver and not a taker<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don&#8217;t under prepare<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don&#8217;t boast about organization<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don&#8217;t perform inspiration- it has to be earned.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The through line<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is the precise idea you want to build in your audience<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is their take away<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overstuffed equals under explained<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Show why it matters . . . what\u2019s the question you\u2019re trying to answer, the problem you\u2019re trying to solve, the experience you\u2019re trying to share<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Flesh out each point you make with real examples, stories, facts<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Great writing is all about the power of the deleted word.\u201d It\u2019s true of speaking too.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Five core tools that speakers use<\/span><\/h6>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Connection<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Narration<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Explanation<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persuasion<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Revelation<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>1.Connection- get Personal<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MAKE EYE CONTACT, RIGHT FROM THE START<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brown strongly recommends that you don\u2019t share parts of yourself that you haven\u2019t yet worked through<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Humor hacks away the main resistance to listening to a talk.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PARK YOUR EGO<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Self-deprecation, in the right hands, is a beautiful thing<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2. Narration -Tell a story<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tales of failure, awkwardness, misfortune, danger, or disaster, told authentically, are often the moment when listeners shift from plain vanilla interest to deep engagement.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3.Explanation &#8211; From Explanation to Excitement<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ask people if something is not clear in draft version<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do a jargon check<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4.Persuasion &#8211; Reason can change minds forever<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persuasion means convincing an audience that the way they currently see the world isn\u2019t quite right.
